Mary La Greca Artsbio

Mary LaGreca, an award-winning visual artist (see awards/press), specialized in watercolors, pastels, and graphic arts. Her subject matter ranges from traditional florals, landscapes and portraits to mixed media, collage, photography, and abstract works.

A resident of Scarsdale, NY and Westhampton Beach, NY, LaGreca had been active in numerous art organizations. For ten years she was the Director of the Village Art Gallery in Bronxville, NY where she taught watercolor and curated numerous exhibitions and artist receptions. From 1996 to 2000, she served as the President of the Hudson Valley Art Association in Westchester.

She held memberships in the Salmagundi Club and the National Arts Club in Manhattan, the National League of American Pen Women (see article in awards/press), the American Artist Professional League, as well as the Scarsdale Art Association, Mamaroneck Artist Guild, the New Rochelle Art Association, the Greenwhich Art Society, and the Art Society of Old Greenwich.

LaGreca grew up in Middletown, New York, At 17 she moved to Manhattan where she attended Hunter College before switching to nursing. She graduated from the Lenox Hill School of Nursing and practiced in New York City where she met her husband, Angelo, a physician. LaGreca first pursued an art career in 1975 when the youngest of her three children was nine. She enrolled in art classes at the College of New Rochelle and studied privately with internationally know watercolorists. Two years later she had her own show. Since 1978 her work has been exhibited in numerous solo and juried shows (see below).

Mary LaGreca was born on September 15, 1933 and passed away on March 24, 2001. She was 67.
